Cynthia Rothrock plays Christine McKay, a woman who quit the police force after her fiance was killed during a shootout. McKay is hired by Lawton Hobbs(Daniel McVicar), a wealthy playboy, to protect him from a crazed ex-girlfriend, Nina(Lydie Denier) It just so happens that the ex-girlfriend is the same woman who killed McKay's fiance.

Guardian Angel is peculiar in a few different ways. Almost everyone in the film looks like someone you've seen before, but just can't place 'em. The fight scenes seem few and far between but you don't really notice. And the plot makes 90 degree turns every few minutes but it's still easy to follow. The movie moves from gang war to buddy film to romantic comedy to action film to love story, etc. It's very well done and the transitions are barely noticeable, the story just flows from one point to the next.

Cynthia Rothrock did a wonderful acting job on this film as well as being great in the action scenes. She moves from hotshot cop, to burned out has been, to big time body guard without breaking a sweat. It looks like Guardian Angel was meant to be more of a straight action film than a martial arts flick. Cars explode, horses are ridden, and CR usually opts to take out the bad guys with a gun instead of a high kick. The big fight scene at the end is okay but it's with a minor character so it doesn't really carry much weight.

In the end, Guardian Angel is a top notch Cynthia Rothrock film. I looks like this might even mark a shift in CR films from straight martial arts movies, to more action type stuff. If CR's career does go that route, then you can look at this movie as the one where she made the switch.

Best Fight Scene

Cynthia Rothrock vs Lydie Denier. It's not even a real fight scene per se, but when Christine McKay walks up to Nina, decks her, and throws her down the stairs, it's a great moment. There is just so much conviction in the way she does it.
