Fast Getaway was Cynthia Rothrock's first non-martial arts film. It's an action-comedy about a father (Leo Rossi as Sam) and son(Corey Haim as Nelson) who rob banks together. CR play's Lily, the father's girlfriend(who just happens to be a martial arts expert). Lily and the Sam(the dad) break up right near the start of the film and voila! All of a sudden, Cynthia Rothrock is playing the villian.
Even though Cynthia has only a supporting role she really shines in the movie. Fast Getaway might not be a martial arts film but it has a couple of good fight scenes. Of course since Lily is the only one in the film that knows karate, she wipes the floor with everyone. Aside from the action, CR shows that she can do roles other than the standard action movie stuff.
The movie itself tries to deal with way more stuff than a low-budget, straight to video movie should. It tackles father-son relationships, responsibility, crime, teen angst, and a few more cliches. It doesn't hit home with any of them. Corey Haim is supposed to be a wisecracking, likeable teen, but after a few minutes of his 'antics' he gets really annoying. I think Leo Rossi was doing some kind of southern/western accent. After a few minutes listening to him talk, he got annoying too. The plot... annoyingly predictable. The ending wasn't annoying, but it was very...well...dumb.
Just as the movie starts to get unwatchable, Cynthia Rothrock shows up in a scene and brings some life back into it. Her sidekick Tony(Ken Lerner) is a breath of fresh air too. Thank God for comic relief. The odd thing is that by the middle of the film, the heroes Sam and Nelson are so unlikable that you start hoping for the bad guys to win. One of the highlights is seeing Cynthia Rothrock beat up Corey Haim in the back of a pickup.
Best Fight Scene Cynthia Rothrock vs Leo Rossi. Near the start of the film Lily hears Sam bad mouthing her behind her back. Not a smart thing to do. The resulting fight scene consists of Lily practically using Sam as a punching bag and pratice dummy. It's fun watching CR show off.
